wildflower {wednesday}

"Earth laughs in flowers."

~Ralph Waldo Emerson~

My daughter is a ballroom dancer.

A competitive ballroom dancer.

And last month was the National Dancesport Competition.

Let's just say that jitters and nerves were in overdrive as the week finally arrived.

For her. For me. For all of us.

As a senior, this competition was a culmination of YEARS of training, sweat and tears.

And I should say, a lot of fun too.

But this event would be the deciding factor for a dance talent scholarship to college.

Her dream.

Something she had given everything to.

Finally, the day arrived. Preliminary rounds for team events were to be held that night. Her bags were packed and our list had been checked MANY times...heel guards, eyelashes, hair nets. You name it, we had it. We are talking suitcases of stuff people.

I dropped everyone off at school and headed to my favorite stop for a bagel and a drink. As I waited in the long drive-through line, I opened my window, took a deep breath and decided to check for messages on my cell phone. With my head down, I suddenly heard the strangest, loudest noise right by my ear. Thinking it was a big bug or something, I began swinging my arms wildly around my head.

As I looked up, I saw it.

And seriously could.not.believe what I saw.

A bird...IN my car.

The biggest robin I have ever seen.

Not kiddin'.

There was flapping. And feathers. And poopin'.

The bird, thank you very much.

And there I was.

Stuck in a drive-though with several cars ahead of me and behind me.

I opened the windows. But, no luck.

Just windshield crashin'.

Finally, I jumped out of the car armed with a hanger.

Since I had just left the dry cleaners. Thankfully.

And after several minutes of flailing, I was able to guide that bird back to freedom.

Luckily for me, the cars in line behind me had tinted windows.

And I was spared some humiliation in not seeing their hysterics as I wrangled a crazed bird from my car.

I laughed the rest of the day.

After the poops were cleaned up, that is :)

  3. I laughed in joy this afternoon when Sadie called out a close friend's name. It took her by such surprise (she loves Sadie and didn't know Sadie could say her name) that she started crying! It was so sweet - yet it struck my a little funny! ;)

  6. Glad you survived the bird attack and thanks for the laugh!

Your story reminded me of my grandma... you see she is deathly afraid of birds. One day while we were all in church, my dad put a fake bird in her purse. In the middle of church she opened her purse, saw the bird, and screamed, or should I say freaked out! Everyone was laughing, even the pastor! :)

    P.S. I'm now a follower!
P.S.S. I also have your cute button on my blog!

  7. Oh my goodness your robin story is crazy! Wow!!! I would have freaked out trying to get it out of my car!
    I love this week's necklace :)
Something that makes me laugh every day are my sweet kiddos :) Yesterday my little girl came in from the yard after it had rained (all. day. long.) She was SO excited because she saw a worm. She told us all over and over again, until I was laughing out loud. I love the wonder and excitement children see in ordinary things that we often overlook :)

  8. I am so very glad that I am a follower!

I laughed until I cried reading your story about the bird... oh how I wish my car was the one behind yours!

My son is on a competition dance team and does a very funny "white" hip hop... he takes his dancing VERY seriously... he takes the saying "dance like no one is watching" to heart! He was dancing at a benefit tonight and I dragged my poor hubby along to see him dance... now I've seen this dance many times and decided to record it... I held my breath so that I wouldn't move my phone and started recording only to see my hubby "dying of laughter" - he started me going and my poor video is a very jumpy mess! We both had tears and were snorting - the best part was the poor woman behind me... telling the person next to her how rude we were being... we laughed all the way home!

Still can't figure out the button thing works - I need a "friend" to help me with this computer stuff! :)

    Thanks for your great blog!

  10. Oh, MY!! Our just turned nine month old, makes me laugh every day! He and I laughed together while sharing fish faces today! And he laughs when all of us laugh, making us laugh even more! And he loves to sing when his older brother plays the cello, which makes us smile and laugh! He is doing cute things now which make me laugh! My friend, Cindy, who won the last give away, shared your site and jewlery with me!-though I had already seen it on LWB, but didn't know it was you! You are so talented! Thank you for all you do for orphans. My heart bleeds for them!
